The European Asylum Support Office (EASO) has recently published a report uncloaks remarkable aspects of the situation of asylum in EU+ countries. The countries consist of EU28 plus Norway, Switzerland, Liechtenstein and Iceland. The report includes numerous datas to assess European migration crisis.
Germany stands out with 745,155 asylum application while taking a look at asylum applications. Similarly, in the first time applications, Germany is at the top of the list by landslide. While it receives 722,265 first time asylum application in 2016, the second country, Italy has just one sixth of that: 121,185.
In 2016, over 190,000 Afghans applied for international protection to the EU+. It shows a 3% decrease as against the previous year, according to the report. Along with Germany, Austria, Hungary, Bulgaria, and France received 87% of applications made by Afghans. In Germany the number of Afghan applicants rose by almost 100 000 due to a registration backlog, the report reveals.
The report indicates that Germany accounted over 125,000 first time application by Afghans.
11% of Afghan applicants were unaccompanied minors, decreased from 27% in 2015. However, it seems still high (24,445), compared to other nationalities. Germany accounted more than half of all unaccompanied minor application, while 42% of them consisted from Afghans.
